The Albums Behind the Designs

· Her Story

Many of our designs come straight from Aaliyah's albums. Some carry a tracklist, some a release date, and some a favourite photo from that time. Here's the story behind each album, and the pieces it inspired.

Age Ain't Nothing but a Number (1994)

Aaliyah's first album arrived in 1994, when she was still a teenager in Detroit. Its first single, "Back & Forth", went to number one on the R&B chart and introduced a new voice to the world.

One in a Million (1996)

Her second album came out in the US on August 27, 1996. Much of it was made with Timbaland and Missy Elliott, and singles like "If Your Girl Only Knew", "4 Page Letter" and "The One I Gave My Heart To" still sound fresh today.

In the shop: the One in a Million Photo design carries that US release date on the back, and the One in a Million Singles design lists the album's singles like an old poster.

Aaliyah (2001)

Her third album, simply called Aaliyah, came out in July 2001. It holds "We Need a Resolution", "Rock the Boat" and "More Than a Woman", which became a number one in the UK.

In the shop: the Self-Titled Tracklist design spells out every song on the album in spaced red capitals, from "We Need a Resolution" to "What If".

And the rest of the shop

Next to the album pieces you'll find portraits, her A mark and designs built around her name, like Princess of R&B, Red Lips and Pop Art Trio. Every design is printed to order on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, with kids' and youth sizes too.
